Ehemalige Zollsperranlage Trutzbingen „Stumpfer Turm“
Trutzbingen, 55424 Münster- Sarmsheim
After a city fire in Bingen in 1490, the magistrate of the city tried to raise money to remedy the damage by introducing a market fee. The fees were also collected from Münster-Sarmsheim and other Palatine places. After an objection from Münster-Sarmsheim remained unsuccessful, they turned to the Elector of the Palatinate, Philipp the Upright. He established a new weekly market in Münster-Sarmsheim, which he secured in 1493 through a customs barrier facility. This consisted of a walled area with a boat dock and a round tower built on a hill.
In 1504, during the Palatine-Bavarian succession war, the Hessian Landgrave Wilhelm advanced against Münster-Sarmsheim. He had the town shelled and set on fire. The customs barrier was destroyed and the side of the round tower facing Bingen was blown up.
