If you're looking for the much lauded
romantic Rhine or the "liquid jewels"
of the Nahe, then the vineyards of the
Rhine-Nahe vacation region are
the right place for you!
There are a total of 10 wine-growing
districts with approx. 600 ha of vineyards,
that offer a wide range of excellent wines
that are truly unique.
More than 43% of the wine produced
here are special quality wines
(Prädikatsweine), that have won many
international awards. The topography in
the two valleys means that the 85%
of the grapes are grown in vineyards with
slopes of more than 30%. Three out of
every four vines grown on the steep terraces
are Riesling. The slate-based soil with its
high mineral content and the mild climate
provide ideal conditions for the grapes
to grow. However, Müller-Turgau, Kerner,
Grauburgunder and Weißburgunder grapes
can also be found in these two wine-growing
regions. When it comes to red wines,
Spätburgunder and Dornfelder rule the roost.
In the past few years, many vineyards have
decided to turn some of their Riesling grapes
into sparkling wine (Sekt), and to offer their
own sparkling wines with a very characteristic
regional character: German Sekt which is
quite on a par with traditional Champagne.
Schnapps, liquers and brandies round off
our vineyards' offering.
The best way to try the wines with their
wonderful characters is right there at the
vineyard. Kick back and enjoy a wine tasting -
or why not try some of the regional culinary
delicacies on offer, as many of our vineyards
also have their own restaurant.
The vineyards would be happy to have you
as their guest! You can find a list of vineyards
under the menu item "Vineyards".
